ST DAY PARISH COUNCIL

Assets

St Day Parish Council owns St Day Town Clock and garden in Fore Street, the Church Street Burial Ground and the Skatepark and Teenage Village on the Vogue Playing Field.

Ownership of St Day Town Clock was transferred from Cornwall Council to St Day Parish Council in 2015 following lengthy negotiations. Cornwall Council no longer wished to be responsible for its maintenance and St Day Parish Council agreed to take over ownership and responsibility for its upkeep. The Parish Council then embarked on a programme of fund raising which eventually totalled over £105k, raised from national and local funding bodies and also local donations, and a programme of repair work was completed in October 2016.

Land for the Church Street Burial Ground was purchased in 1986 and the first burial took place in November 1987. This action was taken following information from St Day Parochial Church Council that there was no more burial space in the churchyard. The present burial ground provides space for over 200 graves and it is estimated that it will continue to be in use past 2030.

The land for the Skatepark and Teenage Village was given to the Parish Council by the St Day Youth and Sports Association, so that it could provide amenities for youngsters. The skate ramp equipment has been removed and is in the planning process of replacing and upgrading a whole new facility.

Five AED Machines have been purchased by the Parish Council and placed at The St Day Inn, The Fox and Hounds Inn at Scorrier, St Day Church and the latest ones at the Methodist Chapel and Gwenap Pit.
