I have lived in the parish all my life and attended St. Day School and Redruth County Grammar School. Whilst serving an engineering apprenticeship I studied at the then Cornwall Technical College and qualified as a Chartered Engineer and later obtained a degree from the Open University. After 12 years in industry I spent over 30 years as a technical college lecturer.
I joined St. Day Parish Council in 1995 and was chairman from 1999 until 2017 and for several years was also chairman of the Mining Villages Regeneration Group.
I was a member of the St. Day Feast Committee for 25 years and its secretary for 14 years.
In 1989 I was invited to join the W. J. Mills Cottages Trustees and was its chairman and treasurer for 17 years until my resignation in 2018.
I have also served 3 year terms as treasurer, secretary and chairman of the North Kerrier University of the Third Age.
